Dracula is without a doubt one of the most recognizable characters in all of gothic and horror literature. The novel of the same name was published in 1897 by the Irish writer Bram Stoker (1847-1912) and his work was compared to that of Edgar Allan Poe and Mary Shelley, for its atmosphere and subject matter, although Stoker’s epistolary narrative style created a more compelling narrative. The name Dracula became synonymous with vampirism and the archetype of the elegant vampire, and over time the novel has become the inspiration for many stories and has been reimagined in countless ways.
